Cooling Off: DIY Aloe Ice Face Pops
As temperatures rise and the summer sun shines brighter, there's nothing like a refreshing treat to beat the heat. And what if this treat could also pamper your skin? Introducing DIY Aloe Ice Face Pops—your new go-to for a cooling sensation that doubles as a skincare delight. Let's dive into how you can create these rejuvenating popsicles right at home!
Why Aloe?
Aloe vera is renowned for its soothing properties, making it a natural choice for skincare. Its gel-like substance contains vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help to hydrate, heal, and protect your skin. Applying aloe vera topically can cool irritated skin, reduce inflammation, and promote overall skin health.
Ingredients You'll Need:
Fresh aloe vera gel (harvested from an aloe vera leaf)
Distilled water (or cooled boiled water)
Optional: Essential oils like sandalwood or tea tree for added benefits and fragrance
Equipment:
Popsicle molds (preferably silicone for easy removal) Click here to grab my Ice pop mold
Popsicle sticks if you choose the popsicle route
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prepare the Aloe Vera Gel:
- Cut an aloe vera leaf from a mature plant. Wash it thoroughly to remove any dirt or residue.
- With a sharp knife, carefully slice away the green outer layer to reveal the clear gel inside.
- Scoop out the gel with a spoon and collect it in a bowl. Aim for about 1 cup of fresh aloe vera gel.
NOTE: The yellow sap inside an aloe plant is known as aloin, which is a bitter-tasting compound with laxative properties. It is found just beneath the skin of the aloe vera leaf and can cause irritation to the skin if not properly removed. To clean the yellow sap off an aloe leaf, begin by washing the leaf thoroughly under cool running water. Then, carefully peel away the green outer layer of the leaf with a sharp knife, ensuring to remove all traces of the yellow sap along with it. Once cleaned, scoop out the clear gel from inside the leaf, which is what is typically used for skincare and other medicinal purposes. This process ensures that you can enjoy the soothing benefits of aloe vera without any risk of irritation from the aloin.
2. Mix the Ingredients:
- In a blender, combine the fresh aloe vera gel with distilled water. The ratio should be approximately 2 parts aloe vera gel to 1 part water, but adjust based on your preference for consistency.
- Optional: Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils for an extra soothing or aromatic touch. Sandalwood and tea tree oils are great choices. Best/High Quality Oils Here
3. Blend Until Smooth:
- Blend the mixture until you achieve a smooth and uniform texture. This ensures that the aloe vera gel and water are thoroughly combined.
4. Pour into Popsicle Molds:
- Carefully pour the blended mixture into your popsicle molds, leaving a small gap at the top for the liquid to expand when freezing.
- Insert popsicle sticks into each mold. Ensure they are placed in the center and will stay upright as the mixture freezes.
5. Freeze:
- Place the popsicle molds in the freezer and let them freeze completely. This typically takes about 4-6 hours, depending on your freezer's temperature.
6. Enjoy Your Aloe Ice Face Pops:
- Once frozen, remove the popsicles from the molds by gently pulling on the sticks.
- To use, simply glide the popsicle over your face, allowing the aloe vera to soothe and cool your skin.
- Relax and enjoy the refreshing sensation! You can store any leftovers in the freezer for future use.
Benefits:
- Soothing and Cooling: Aloe vera's natural properties help to cool and calm irritated or sun-exposed skin.
- Hydrating: The combination of aloe vera and water provides a hydrating boost, making your skin feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
- DIY Fun: Creating these popsicles is a fun and creative activity that allows you to customize your skincare routine.
Tips for Success:
- Ensure your popsicle molds are clean before pouring in the mixture.
- If you don't have fresh aloe vera gel, you can use store-bought aloe vera gel. However, fresh gel is generally more potent. Here is a link to my fave organic brand
