Bloating

Bloating With Every Bite?

October 14, 20235 min read

Do you find that you’re chronically bloated? None of the elimination diets work. You’ve tried the detox teas, and the juice cleanses. You’re fed up and still scrolling to find the next social media fad.

The problem with these fads is that they exploit your desire to reach unrealistic beauty standards. You then develop an unhealthy relationship with food which produces poor eating habits and self degrading cycles.

Don't exhaust yourself trying to keep up with the Kardashians. Educate yourself on the causes of bloating, and other symptoms that exasperate it.

We are going to discuss three main causes that could be directly linked to increased intestinal permeability, also known as Leaky Gut. Bloating is one of many symptoms that stem from this condition.

leaky gut symtoms

Overgrowth of Bad Bacteria

Our digestive system comprises trillions of microorganisms. Bacteria is amongst the diverse species that coexist with these microorganisms. These bacteria are also referred to as gut microbiota. Gut bacteria plays a vital role throughout our digestive processes, and the health of our gut microbiome is directly linked to our overall health and well-being. When our gut microbiota is compromised, or when we have an imbalance of bacteria, this can lead to the overgrowth of bad bacteria. An overgrowth of bad bacteria can cause an inflammatory response to the gut lining, which may lead to abdominal pain and bloating. It can also affect the pace at which you're able to digest food, causing irregular bowl movements. Bad bacteria could also be at the root of your food allergies and intolerances.

Parasites or Worms

Parasites and worms are also slimy culprits (no pun intended), responsible for the disruption of the digestive system. Parasites and worms can cause inflammation, hinder nutrient absorption, slow down digestion, and disrupt food fermentation in the gut. Larger worms or heavy parasitic infestations can be responsible for bowl obstruction, which can then lead to bloat. Parasites can generate gases that accumulate in your intestines, leading to increased flatulence. Chronic infections have been linked to nutritional deficiencies, which you guessed it: impact the function of your gastrointestinal tract. To learn more about how parasites can affect you, check out my blog Let's talk Candida & Parasites.

Food Quality, Quantity, or BOTH

The quality of your food and the quantity of your food both play a significant roll when it pertains to abnormal bloating. Food quality can encompass several categories. These categories include FODMAPs (fermented oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols). FODMAPs are found in certain carbohydrates such as beans, wheats, barley, yogurt, fruits, and vegetables. Quality also pertains to the amount of dietary fiber. Generally speaking, foods high in dietary fiber are considered good for your health. However, eating fiber in excess can lead to bloating and gas. The more obvious categories of food quality are processed foods (STAY AWAY!), sugar alcohols, lactose, dairy, alcohol, and carbonated beverages. When we speak about quantity, this is particularly in regard to the amount of food during consumption, adequate hydration levels, overeating, eating small portioned meals, or eating too quickly. All of this plays it's part in how your body tolerates the breakdown of foods. Both quality and quantity could be contributing to ongoing or recurring bloat. At the end of this post, I have attached FREE resources, normally exclusive to my course. These resources will provide you with detailed information pertaining to leaky gut, what's causing it, a list of foods to be avoided, and much more!

Conclusion:

It’s important to understand that you’re not alone! Disease stems in the gut, and there are many factors that could contribute to insufficient gut health! Because of my personal experiences with food, health issues, and intolerances, I have dedicated my life to developing tools and methods to help my clients heal their bodies from within. It is equally beneficial to understand that, given the gut protagonists listed above, the symptoms appear to be relatively similar, give or take. I provide these blogs as informative resources, but they should never be supplemented for medical care or diagnostics. The only clinical and legitimate way to find out what’s happening in your gut is to go through Lab Testing. Unless your symptoms are strictly a food allergy, this is something I highly recommend to my clients. When it comes to your gut, don't hold back! I say this with love because what you don’t pay for now you’ll pay for 10 fold down the road in medical bills. Most companies like myself, now offer flexible payment plans making it as affordable as possible. Stop wasting your money on the next juice cleanse or detox tea thinking it’s going to “solve all your problems” — really it’s just making you go to the bathroom because it’s a laxative. You don’t lose weight honey, you lost water. Adequate hydration is a primary component of vitality. Lastly, please don't ask AI for a custom program when it knows NOTHING about your unique body. While we can all agree that technology plays it's part in medical flourishing, there is no one size fits all when it comes to health.
